In the spirit of pink and feminism, below is a collection of pink songs with feminist messages.
Not Your Barbie Girl by Ava Max
The chorus explains it all, as does the title. This song samples ‘Barbie Girl’ by Aqua (released in 1997), featuring a more feminist message in contrast to the song’s original, somewhat objectionable lyrics.
Frequently sighted on TikTok, notably used by makeup artists.
Power by Little Mix
Girls are powerful!
This song goes HARD in chapel. (Maybe I should have recommended this in the previous edition for those of us that particularly identify with the colour green…)
Queencard by (G)I-DLE
Confidence is key. This song delivers the same kind of message a 2000s teen movie would. The chorus is very inspiring and artfully composed.
This is probably the most unserious song I have ever heard, but that’s kind of the idea.
Tally by BLACKPINK
This one is about not succumbing to society’s harsh judgement of women.
I know. It’s rare that we get a BLACKPINK song with a meaning, and it’s very strange to see this on the same album as ‘Typa Girl’. But it happened.
The Man by Taylor Swift
Everyone’s favourite!!!
Life is a race in which men have a head start two inches away from the finish line is basically what Taylor Swift says (but much more masterfully). The English student in me really appreciates the symbolic title of the song for reflecting the power men hold over women.
TOMBOY by (G)I-DLE
An obvious one. Girls can do whatever we want even if it doesn’t conform to feminine stereotypes.
(Also I might be biased but this truly is the greatest comeback of all time.)
So What by P!nk
Does P!nk really own this song, or does it belong to Zoe Alexander?
